Turned 50. Having a baby shower!

Figured that would get your attention.

Yes, I did turn 50 on Tuesday (3/7). And I am having a baby shower. But it's not for me. It's for mothers at a drug and alcohol treatment center -- My Sister's House – where I lead a parenting class as a volunteer.  My Sister’s House (MSH) is unique in that it allows the moms in recovery to live with their children. This is a real blessing, as the moms don’t have to worry about the safety and well-being of their children while they do the hard work of getting clean and sober.

There are SEVERAL women at MSH who have brand-new babies. They don't have much at all in the way of maternity clothes or nursing bras. Or baby clothes. Or money. Most have no idea of how to be a parent, as most of these women grew up in some type of addiction or abuse themselves. They are trying to break the cycles of addiction and abuse, and they need our help.

Here’s how you can help:
  • PRAY. Over the next few weeks would you all include these women, and their babies, in your prayers? Some of  their names are McCayla, Tiffany, Jennifer, Brittany, Shelly, and Erika.
  • “RE-PURPOSE.”  See if you or your neighbors have any  slightly worn maternity and/or baby clothes/ things and send them to  the women of My Sister's House c/o

  • INSPIRE: IF you don't have any baby or maternity things and would still like to help, please write a check to My Sister’s House and mail it to MSH today or next week so the counselors can give a copy of my book for each to these moms. The book is The TurnAround Mom. It’s been featured on television, radio, and in Dr. Laura's magazine. It is a book for people who grew up in — or live in — addiction or abuse, and want to bring their children up in a peaceful, Christian home. A check for $10 or $20 would be  great. It is also tax-deductible. Just make it to My Sister’s house and put  “book” in the “for” line. They want the book so that is why I am asking for your help.
